How I Blew My New Year’s Resolutions

How has 2018 been treating you?

I hit the ground running this year – catching up on work and implementing new ideas – and then the snow bomb cyclone hit my home here in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, The deep freeze on just about everything has slowly melted now and I’m fretting. I haven’t taken a single step toward achieving the resolutions I vowed to complete this year. I have not stepped up my yoga classes or tried new healthy recipes. My workouts have been erratic, and my dinners at home are – well – boring.

If you’re like me, you might feel like giving up on your health goals before you’re able to make them habits. But don’t get down. Remember that a new year doesn’t have to start on January 1. Any day is a good day to start changing your life. In fact, every day is a good day to start changing for the better. Right?

But establishing new health habits doesn’t happen overnight. It may not even happen in the month of January. And that’s totally OK.

I’ve slowly come to realize that achieving perfectionism and complete control over just about anything is impossible. Humans simply can’t do it. And believe me, I try pretty hard. But curve balls continue to be thrown at us no matter what. The weather is only one of them.

Remember, not taking action because the “conditions” aren’t right is an excuse. The key to success is to start small and do it consistently. Over time these small steps are compounded and eventually you will get your desired results. That’s what I am planning to do!
